Wisdom teeth can sometimes cause significant
problems and need removing for a variety of
reasons – recurrent infection, tooth decay or to
allow corrective surgery or orthodontic
treatment.
If extraction is recommended by a surgeon, the
operation can be performed under either local or
general anaesthetic, as advised by your
anaesthetist. Removing wisdom teeth may involve
cutting the gum to uncover the tooth, removing
bone around the tooth and dividing the tooth with
a drill. After the operation the gum will be
stitched with dissolvable stitches. Most patients
return to normal activities within a week
surgery. |
