The role of Pharmacy is to ensure that
medicines are used safely and effectively within
Nuffield Hospitals.
The Pharmacy services in our hospitals provide
a complete medicines management service. We use
only high quality evidence based treatments to
ensure that medicines complement treatment and
recovery.
The Pharmacy staffing at our hospitals includes
Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacy
Assistants who are trained and motivated to the
highest level in order to ensure high quality
service delivery and advice, in a friendly and
approachable manner.
These staff perform a wide variety of duties,
including:
- Reviewing prescriptions to ensure they are
appropriate, and medicines are prescribed and
administered effectively
- Dispensing hospital prescriptions
- Helping patients to understand their
treatment
- Prescription checking and ordering of
injections to treat cancer and infections, and
also nutrition that can be put into the blood
stream
- Providing financial and clinical information
to hospital staff and our consultant colleagues
Pharmacy practice is governed by the
various statutory regulations and by the code of
ethics, of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of
Great Britain.
Our aim is to apply these guidelines
efficiently, to ensure the safe, accurate and
economical usage of pharmaceutical products in the
treatment of our patients.
