Lymphoedema |

This is a collection of protein-rich fluid,
which is evident as a swelling in the soft tissues
below the skin. This is mainly due to the
malfunction of drainage by the lymphatic channels.
Lymphoedema may occur following damage to the
lymphatic system, due to cancer, radiotherapy,
surgery, fibrosis, infection, injury or congenital
abnormalities. While it is not possible to repair
damaged lymphatics, it may be possible to move the
lymph fluid from a congested swollen area of the
body to an area where the lymphatics are
